I've been using the Super Mario Game and Watch as a watch. Well, technically a clock. I did not strap this thing to my wrist, and will not even look up the possibility of doing so. The Game & Watch sits on the shelf facing my general direction, and the time displayed is correct, as I've adjusted it to be so, and the time has remained constant since the November 2020 launch of the product. A+ for a time well kept.

Actually though, this thing is pretty bad as a decorative desk clock. The USB power cable is going to jut out the side and will need a decent amount of clearance to bend the cord around and reach the chosen power source. Hopefully you have a right angled USB-C connector. Do those even exist?

You’ll need something though, the Game and Watch will quickly enter sleep mode any time it’s unplugged from a power source, so I have no idea how long this would last on battery alone, but I can't imagine long with the surprisingly powerful little LCD screen. Another issue is the lack of stability for the Game and Watch. If you hope to have it at an angle that you can actually see what time it is, you'll have to find something for the G&W to sit in or lean against, and any rudimentary set up I've had has been janky at best.

Besides it not running like a clock, or sitting like a clock, all other clock based functions are fantastic. The large numbers on the brightly lit screen are easy to see from a few feet away, even at the lowest setting.

Aside from a week of silently sitting in sleep mode during a recent vacation. I've had the G&W telling me the time from my bookshelf at minimum brightness since the Mid-November launch and still no signs of burn-in or broken pixels on this sturdy little hardware/

At the end of the day would I recommend this as a clock? No, it's 50 bucks and doesn't even stand up.

Now this Game and Watch gets a hardy endorsement from me as a both a game device, and watch device. Thank you free market. I hope everyone enjoys buying accessories for their $50 clock as much as I do! I'll need to get a bright green one of these too when that Legend of Zelda Game & Watch drops this winter. Double time!
