In stock this week is the stellar new Where the Water Tastes Like Wine OST by Ryan Ike, the eclectic Flight of Light soundtrack, and Street Fighter: The RVA Warriors, a hip hop compilation out of Richmond, VA. Then we close with the latest EP of intense game metal with Clockwork by Super MadNES, and the spacey sounds of Continuum Kingdom's new album 7 dmns.
I tried to look into what the deal is with this album. I know there is, or maybe was, a fan project known as Mother 4. Does this album come from that? Maybe? After my search for answers led to a reddit thread, I gave up. Anyway, this is a wonderful addition to the sounds of Shogo Sakai, Keichi Suzuki, and Hip Tanaka. There are a lot of tracks here. 60 tracks, specifically. Both new, inspired, and rearranged tracks in the mood of the Mother series. The perfect soundtrack to dream of the day that Shigesato Itoi makes another video game, and it's not about fishing.
About two dozen musicians have come together to pay tribute to the classic N64 (and Nintendo DS) game Diddy Kong Racing. More specifically, we get an electric dance party of a tribute to Diddy Kong Racing. Is this a bad time to say I don't like Diddy Kong Racing?
New York based composer Spencer Bambrick has released a collection of music from the currently in development indie game BestLuck. The album bio describes BestLuck as, “...a story-driven puzzle game set in a dreamworld. The narrative is beautiful and emotional, with a soundtrack to fit the mood.” The soundtrack we are discussing right now. The bio continues, “The music features a string quartet and solo soprano voice. This chamber ensemble sets the tone, and highlights the heartfelt events that occur in BestLuck.”
A lot of variety on display here. Digging the track choices, especially that FF 3 and 4. Also a smooth mash up of Sonic 2. Even some Steven Universe inspired tunes to close things out.
