FRAY perform Video Game inspired Hip Hop Dance Show presented by CandyBomber Productions, June 3-4 at The Midway San Francisco

Today, CandyBomber Productions Founder Kate Duhamel announced the San Francisco premiere of FRAY, at The Midway, June 3-4, 2022 at 8 p.m., following its debut at Stanford Live (May 26-27). The live performance will bring the video game universe to life through an inventive blend of authentic game design visuals, an original music composition, and a fusion of hip hop and ballet. Attendees can participate in the FRAY stand-alone video game, placing parts of the performance in the audiences' hands, which they can explore before and after the show.

Embracing The Midway's typical function as a live music venue, FRAY will also feature DJ sets after the show. Tickets for FRAY start at $20 (early bird) and are available now at themidwaysf.com.

Two Brothers,
One Passion for Gaming

CandyBomber’s second major production, FRAY is being created from another unique collaboration among a musician, five dancers, video designers and video game developers. It will premiere on May 26-27, 2022 at Stanford Live.

FRAY weaves a story about two brothers, Tullio and Ziya, through a vibrant tapestry of live music, dance and large screen visuals that portray the video games they love and the places they go. We are also designing a real video game for PCs based on the same characters and story, as well as a mobile app, FRAY Jam that will be available for the fans to play before the live show.

Returning from the FURY Show creative team is Music Director, James Jackson. Adding to the creative talent pool are Video Game Developers, Herobeat Studios in Barcelona, Spain; Adam Jeffcoat - Game Designer; Fearghas Hilton - Musician for the PC game; Anjelo Alonte - Animator; Mark Benis and Mark Lohmann of Moon Moon Moon - Visuals for the live show; Ron Weaver - Project Manager for the FRAY Jam mobile game.

The FRAY Story
Tullio and Ziya, deeply bonded from birth, share a passion for video games that light up their sparse world with colorful landscapes and imaginary characters who inspire and challenge them, much like the people they meet in the real world outside.  In their late teens, they enter a contest to build their own video game, and pattern it after themselves, with their on-screen avatars taking up challenges they encounter in real life.  Their “avatar” hearts glow when they join forces, a super power in the game, and a superpower in real life too as they confront both shadowy bullies and inner demons.  But real life isn’t a game, and dark forces loom that draw them apart.  Tullio finds himself in a real life quest in which there is no analog “game controller” for real people, and steering his brother away from the perilous influences that attract him can’t be programmed into a computer.  Tullio must confront what it means to love someone you could be losing.
